One special thing about Baños is the beautiful surrounding waterfall scenery. The so called Ruta de las Cascadas, the route of waterfalls, starts in Baños and leads to the giant waterfall Pailon del Diablo, the biggest one of five waterfalls along the road.
You can take the bus or rent a buggy to accomplish the 17 kilometers downhill ride. We wanted it a bit sporty and took the mountain bikes. Besides sun was shining brightly and we got some nice bikes and helmets for free.
The final waterfall is definitely worth the sporty effort. I can’t remember how high it is, but the view over the canyon is spectacular. Once you crossed a wooden swing bridge a path around the rock allows you to stay almost under the waterfall. Noisy, but most of all really impressive.
After a delicious icecream in the sun we took the bus back to town. Lucky us, you’re allowed to take them with you in the bus and you don’t even have to pay for it. We had already enough activity for today. And it’s going to be even more adventurous the next days.
